Chelsea have been in a slump for the last few weeks and they cannot seem to buy a win at the moment, and it’s mostly down to the lack of goals coming from the forwards and the fact that we have a very shaky defence right now.
With the brilliant John Terry out injured for the next few weeks, boss Roberto di Matteo has some serious problems at the back which needs to be adjusted as soon as possible.
After the team’s recent 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Brom today, he has hit out at his defenders and blamed them for the loss.
Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “Defensively we were not good enough to win the game after conceding two goals. Thinking that you need to score three to win the game is just mad.
“We know we can play a bit more defensively. We are trying to find the right balance where we can create chances and win games, but we have to start with being defensively more attentive.”
The Chelsea boss, who left regular starters such as Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires, Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic on the bench, claimed the team selection was influenced by the demands of international football.
“It was forced on us with the international games in midweek,” he said. “We had players coming back from long trips overseas with five or six hours of time difference.
“They were very fatigued and tired and were not in condition to start the game.”
Di Matteo can blame the defence for the loss today, but it his is own fault for not sorting it out weeks ago when it was clear they had problems. How he fixes it is his prerogative, but we are all hoping that he finds a way to solve the problem before we play Juventus in the Champions League in midweek, because it is not good seeing your team continually fail to win.
