Gianfranco Zola is a man that every fan loved to see when he was a player and became one of the clubs greatest ever player during his seven year stint here at Stamford Bridge. And he has come out and stated that he would one day like to manage his beloved blues.
He is currently manager to Watford down In the Championship, but the idea of being boss of us has always been a part of his plans as her would love to make an emotional return to the West London club.
Working with a club that has big ambitions of getting back into the Premier League can only be beneficial to him. Though the 46-year-old hopes that one day he will be offered an opportunity to enhance his legend status at Chelsea.
“I have been dreaming of becoming a good manager, one who can lead a team like Chelsea,” Zola told France Football.
“I work really hard for it. I do not know if I will (manage Chelsea). I think I have the abilities but I do not think I am good enough yet.”
Zola was a fantastic player in his day and there have’t been many blues players that were so exciting to watch since he retired, but he has a long way to go in his managerial career to even be considered for the job here at Stamford Bridge.
He will need to take on a job that is playing at the very top of world football, and needs to be very success there because the competition for a job like Chelsea is vast and we only recruit managers that have proven that they can win things.
Roberto di Matteo was the exception to that fact and he went on to win the Champions League and FA Cup, but I don’t think that Roman Abramovic would bring in a manager that has had no solid credentials on his managerial CV.
We all love Zola and think he is a great guy, but his dream of managing us will never become a reality.
